Peter Cane

Team leader Peter Cane has a 30-year track record of courtroom success for a client base that includes multibillion-dollar public companies, entrepreneurs in a wide variety of businesses and Academy Award-winning writers and directors.

Cane has lectured on litigation strategy and technique at law schools in New York and California, as well as being an in-demand speaker at professional organizations including the Copyright Society of The United States and the New York State Bar Association. Cane is a past chairman and/or member of several committees of the New York State and New York City Bar Associations.

Cane’s advice and expertise are often on display in the media. He was a regular commentator for Court TV, including as a panelist on Inside America’s Courts, and he has appeared as a legal expert on CBS, NBC, Fox News and MSNBC, among many other broadcast and cable outlets. He has also been profiled or quoted in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Post and numerous other publications.

Prior to founding CaneLaw in 1995, Peter was a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell. Before that, he was a Law Clerk to Judge Joseph W. Bellacosa of the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court. Peter graduated from the Fordham University School of Law, where he was on both the Law Review and Dean’s List.

Prior to attending law school, Peter was an award-winning reporter and writer at CBS News in New York.

Peter’s outside interests include the media and entertainment industries. He has founded, co-founded and been an early-stage investor in several successful businesses, including BoxOffice.com and Broadway.com. Peter has also produced Off-Broadway shows (Mad Libs Live!, 21 Dog Years) and he received an Emmy nomination and the GLAAD Media Award (among others) for his producing work on the HBO Film The Laramie Project.
